The Rat Eater — dark theatrical still

Photo: Joy Chao

The Rat Eater is a two-act performance derived from a semi-fictional manuscript. Using diaries and letters, the performance weaves deconstructive writing with psychoanalytic ideas, unfolding and breaking apart through desire, anxiety and taboo. Through bodily details and recurring metaphors, the artist traces shifting boundaries within relationships, identity and longing, forming a queer mental landscape between fantasy and reality, shame, secrecy and desire. The manuscript comes from a state of turbulence, where intrusive fantasies and compulsive projections slip into brief hallucinatory scenes. In those moments, desire twists into strange forms and reality becomes sharply clear, revealing a psyche caught between obsession, neurodivergent intensity and the difficulty of speaking openly.
